*** I received lodging and admission to the park for the subject matter contained in this post, all opinions are 100% my own***
I have been visiting Hershey PA since I was a little girl, at least a handful of times a year for many many years. Overall of those years, I have never visited the Hershey Gardens, this was something we wanted to visit but we just never fit it in. Not this time, we were going to get over to the gardens early and visit and see if it was a great as I had heard. The Hershey Gardens are easy to get to they are right across the street from Hersheypark, and down the road from The Hotel Hershey.
Admission is $12.50 per person, but if you are staying on Hershey property, you will get free tickets to The Hershey Gardens for your entire party at check-in. I was excited to check out the gardens and we headed off right after we checked into the hotel. The gardens were a short walk from The Hershey Hotel, we were all looking forward to the visit, and the day could not be nicer.
When we arrived we were greeted and told that this was a great time to visit because the 20,000 plus tulips were in bloom. Wow, that is a lot of tulips! Now let's see just what they were talking about, just at the entrance there we so many tulips, the scent fragranced the air and they were breathtaking. We took time to slow down and appreciate nature’s beauty to stop and smell the flowers literally and figuratively if you will…
We visited the Children’s Garden, checked out all of the cool kids play areas and fun activities. If you have a young one this is the perfect place to have them fun around and learn while they are having fun. There were interactive displays and lots of fun to be had. I loved the “candy” decorations, Twizzlers rope protecting the flower beds, very cute!
The Japanese Gardens were so very tranquil, they just took you to a relaxing place that you could have stayed to enjoy all day. But there was so much more to see, the gardens are immense and filled with all sorts of flowers. One of my most favorite memoirs from our visit was seeing the garden through my daughter’s eyes.
She was snapping pictures left and right. Not selfies, she was really getting into capturing the beauty of the flowers. It was so nice to see her taking an interest in photography like this. And of course if you want to come and take some selfies they are plenty, I mean plenty of great backgrounds for those perfect shots.

While there we also visited the indoor Butterfly Atrium, this is included with the admission. The indoor atrium was filled with all types of butterflies and assorted insects. My daughter and I enjoyed searching around for butterflies and snapping pictures. My husband sat this one out, he is not the biggest fan of butterflies but he was able to watch us explore through the atrium window. One tip I have for this is, the atrium is very humid… if you have a jacket be sure to leave this behind, and it is a bit too warm in the exhibit for extra clothing.
There were so many beautiful butterflies flying about. So many that you had to be sure to watch where you stepped to be sure you will not accidentally step on one. They had food stations all around, and it was interesting to see the butterflies eat. There were also displays showing the metamorphosis, of the butterfly step by step. It was fun and educational.
I really enjoyed getting to take an up-close look at this beautiful creatures. Even though my husband did not partake in the atrium visit, he enjoyed watching us from afar.
If you are looking for a little getaway while you are in Hershey PA, I would highly suggest visiting The Hershey Gardens, and the Butterfly Atrium, it is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the amusement park. It is a nice getaway, and I am sure your family will love it as much as mine did.

Do you know - I live near Hershey and have visited the park at least once a year and did not know about this? I am now planning a trip within the month to see this! How unique and wonderful. And that pic of the blue butterfly.... I love it.
