A day of great tips, some tears and lots of fun, Disney Media Moms Conference session #1 #Disneysmmc

****I was invited to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Land and Sea Celebration conference. I paid a conference fee to attend. I received a discounted rate for my stay. All opinions are my own. I have not been compensated or asked to post about Disney.****

The Disney Media Moms conference was as amazing as you would think it would be it was filled with fun, lots of great new information and even a few tears. My takeaways from the first session range from excitement, knowledge, to appreciation and the joy of giving back. There is so much to share with you all. Where to start? Well, let’s start at the beginning.

When we arrived at the conference the first speaker to greet us was the Chairmen Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Bob Chapeck, to discuss with us some great new things coming to Disney. Disney wants to  fully immerse guests in the experience, from the start of your day to the finish.

The cool new Minnie Vans, these are a great form of transportation that transports the guests one way from any location on property for a flat rate fee. Think of how great this would be after a long day at the parks, just call up a van and you don't have to wait for the bus! I can't wait to try this out. What is coming to the Disney parks soon? I am excited to hear that the Disney Skyliner to trans port guests from park to park is in the works. Another form of transport is always a plus.

There are so many new rides and shows coming to the parks as well, including Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway this is a 2 1/2D ride so there will be no 3d glasses needed. What exactly is a 2 1/2D ride? We were not told, but I guess we will find out in 2019. The new ride at Epcot that features The Guardians of the Galaxy… well this is going to be an inside roller coaster!
There is a new show slated for Disney’s Animal Kingdom! On Earth Day, April 22, 2018, Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort will debut “UP! A Great Bird Adventure,” a brand-new show featuring Russell and Dug from the Disney/Pixar animated comedy adventure film “UP.” The show will give guests the chance to see Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his fuzzy friend Dug in a new adventure that includes encounters with exotic birds from around the world.

For the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering team members review the Millennium Falcon under development for Stars Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will transport guests to a remote trading port on the edge of space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
The land will open at both Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California in 2019. We got to see an actual picture of the X-wing Starfighter under development for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will transport guests to a remote trading port on the edge of space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

David Roark, Manager of Creative Photography at Walt Disney World Resort, this Disney photographer, here to show us tips on taking great pictures. He has been taking photos for Disney since 1982. We were able to see some tricks of the trade, to see how far Disney photographs have come. He gave us some great tips like slow down and get close to try to grab an action shot, hand out to capture the moment. From film to digital, the world of photography has changed so much. I can say after this presentation I will never look at another Disney photograph the same, now that I know how much effort goes into each shot.
Terry Cox, Manager of Search Engine Marketing. Terry was the first cast member dedicated to paid search advertising and search engine optimization within The Walt Disney Company as well as the first in-house online marketer at Disney Destinations.  Terry is currently the head of search marketing for Disney Destinations where he created and leads an in-house team that has won multiple industry awards.

The team works closely with Marketing, Public Affairs and the blog teams to maximize Disney’s presence in search results.  During Terry’s time at Disney he also led the creation of the in-house social and programmatic display advertising teams. He gave some great advise including, to get the most out of SEO write individual posts for each announcement you are trying to make, and make sure you have a good informative title to each post.. Google pays attention to the titles. I will have to keep this in mind for the future.
Amy Stanford is the senior editor for Babble, a leading brand for millennial parents owned by Disney. Amy has been with Babble for nearly 5 years, heading up a team of editors working across editorial and social. She specializes in brand voice and audience growth and loves finding new, creative ways to tell stories. Amy was informative and really showed us how even the smallest of blogs can make a difference and work with big companies like Babble.
Vera Sweeney (Alamo Presenter), Founder of Lady and the Blog grew  up with a love of exploration and adventure. As a mother of three, Vera continues to evolve with her children. From diaper duty to scheduling toddler playdates to filling out high school applications, Vera openly documents her life journey and looks for guidance from her community as she grows. Vera showed us that is was best to take your time and enjoy and capture real moments not staged moments. These are your memories, capture them and enjoy the little things.

We were treated to a mini concert from the popular Country Music Artists band, Temecula Road, this rising country music trio Temecula Road, comprised of sisters Emma (vocals/mandolin) and Maddie (vocals) Salute together with guitarist and longtime friend Dawson Anderson (vocals/guitar), have already amassed a sizable and loyal fan base thanks to their immaculate harmonies and infectious, youthful energy.
With talent far beyond their teenage years, Temecula Road has an impressive online following with their series of song covers.  A recent mashup video of the trio singing portions of 2016’s top 20 country songs in a mere 3 minutes garnered them over 7 million views online and 84,000 shares on Facebook alone.   They are so talented, I am sure they are going to go far! I look forward to hearing more music from them in the future.

John Breckow, Director of Corporate Citizenship for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. John Breckow gets to oversee the philanthropic and giving effort across Disney Parks worldwide. John began his Disney career in 2006, he was excited to share a little glimpse ‘behind the magic’ of Disney Parks’ social outreach. I told you there were tears during the conference didn’t I? Well here is where the tears really started to flow. John shared some of his memories of his out reaches throughout his time with Disney.
I never realized how many Make a Wish dreams that Disney fulfilled it is astounding and moving. With the Disney’s Volunteer Project? This a  great way that Disney gives back to the community. John told an amazing story about a wish, where Disney went above and beyond to grant the dream to a young girl. Disney is not just a large company that doesn’t care, John showed how much Disney does care and it was so heartwarming.
Overall these sessions were so informative and filled with laughter tears and moments I will never forget. I got tips on how to become a better blogger a better photographer as well as a better person. I learned to kick back, don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy. Sometimes it is hard to do this and life gets away from you, every day things just become chores. But I want to take a breath stand back and appreciate the little things, do more with life, volunteer more and get the most out of the time I have with my family.
