We all know
that visiting Hershey PA is a lot of fun, especially during the holiday season.
There is so much to do, from the amusement park to tours, you can really keep
yourself busy. But after all the running around and excitement, you need time
to relax and unwind and enjoy a good meal. For this in steps The Forebay at The
Hershey Lodge, this hidden gem is tucked away on the second floor of the lodge
and is a great way to settle in and relax after your busy day in Hershey PA.
The Forebay is serving
up creative and regionally inspired comfort food, they offer a variety of
broiled steaks, fresh seafood, and specialties from our smokehouse. Enjoy their
house-created favorites with a twist and the premium top-shelf bar, featuring
small-batch spirits and an extensive wine list, in a relaxed, rustic setting. What
should you wear while visiting The Forebay… Attire is resort casual. Recently
my family and I had the privilege of checking out a dinner at this lovely restaurant.
When you arrive at the restaurant, you immediately feel more relaxed, this darker restaurant takes you away from the bright lights of the city, and brings you to a warm and relaxing atmosphere and features amazing food and a wide drink selection. We were ready to cozy up and enjoy a nice relaxing dinner.
The wait staff was extremely attentive and
seemed genuinely happy to be there to serve us. And boy what they served us was
amazing! We started off with salted pretzel rolls with a mustard dip. The pretzels were warm and delicious, a great
paring with the mustard or to just enjoy on its own.
We were trying to pace ourselves, there were
so many more great things on the menu that we wanted to try, we were off to the
entrees. My husband opted for the Smokehouse Burger with Groff’s Bacon, White
Cheddar, Barbecue Sauce, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion on a Toasted Onion Brioche. My
husband raved about this burger his bacon was extremely crispy just like he
wanted and the bbq sauce had a nice smoky flavor that complement the burger
well, he opted for no lettuce and tomato and really enjoyed the burger and
fries.
To celebrate, Wild Game & Mushroom Season there was a great
limited time menu that I opted to go with for my entrée the menu offered the choice
of 3 small Plates plus dessert for $34 a great deal! Unfortunately this
promotion recently ended, but don’t worry there are currently special menu’s
for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I am sure there will be more specials added
be sure to check back.

I figured I would be a little daring and try
some new to me meats, that I have never tried before. I figured, you only live
once why not go for it? I choose the Cocoa Venison Chili with Sharp Cheddar
Cornbread Croutons, and Chive Sour Cream, this chili was rich and slightly sweet…
It was not gamey at all, I added a dash of hot sauce and enjoyed this very
much.
My favorite of the trio of items was the Wild
Boar Bucatini, Braised Wild Boar Ragout, Roasted Grapes, Winter Greens, Lobster
Mushrooms, Pecorino Romano. The wild boar reminded me of the most moist and
tender pulled pork that I have ever had the tart roasted grapes were an
unexpected pop of flavor. This was my favorite dish of the evening, something if
added to the menu I would easily order again.
My daughter went with one of her favorites Macaroni
& Cheese, this was not a store bought mac and cheese, it was really homemade
and it stood out and was a hit with my daughter. The kids portion was huge, and
we had plenty to bring home for later.
For Dessert I had the Preserved Lemon &
Olive Oil Shortbread Red Wine Plum Compote, Dark Chocolate Ice cream Crushed
Toasted Hazelnuts this was included in the meal package, just the cherry on top
of an amazing deal. This was a wondrous dark chocolate ice cream, with a sweet
cookie and delicate plums that had a nice red wine taste a great way to end the
meal.

Does this look like a place you would like to
visit next time you are in Hershey PA? This was our second time eating here,
and we wondered why we did not eat there more often it was a spectacular meal
that we all enjoyed. I would highly suggest checking out The Forebay in The
Hershey Lodge next time you are in the area, you will not be disappointed.
