One of the biggest fears I have is having a major plumbing accident in my home…. Again…Ugh.. We all know that a visit from the plumber can be a costly experience, and it is not something any of us want to go through. Sure a major plumbing event is a catastrophe, but did you know that even the smallest plumbing visits can cost you... There has to be a better way? I wanted to share some great tips that I have learned over the years, some easy plumbing fixes that you can for yourself to save money. Even non-handy folks like myself can do these super easy fixes. Check them out they may just save you some $$!
Toilet clogs: These can be a pain, but you can usually fix them on your own. First, always have a plunger on hand. If a plunger is not a help, no matter how many times to try to get the clog…. There is another option do you have a wet vac on hand? Perhaps you have one in the basement? Well, this is going to come in handy! If is a “deposit” or a bottle of nail polish (Yes this has happened to me before…) using the tube of the wet vac to suck out your issues is a marvel! Get that vac tube down deep and turn it on, it may take a few seconds but it will get what is stuck and clogging the toilet. Remember this must be a wet vac, that is meant to use with water, do NOT use a conventional vacuum.
Fix a Leaky Faucet: Drip, drip, drip… It may seem a little difficult to fix that leaky faucet, but trust me you can do it. First us is to find where the leak is coming from… if the faucet is pouring out water from the bottom uncontrollably, this is not just a leak and you may need professional help. If it is a drip from the sprout you may be able to solve this problem…Most likely your sink faucet needs a new washer. Simply pry off the decorative cap on the handle, then remove the handle screw and pull off the faucet handle.
Then use a wrench to unscrew the packing nut. This may seem difficult, but it is pretty simple and you are almost done! After unscrewing the stem of the faucet you can start to remove and replace the washer held in place by a brass screw. Just a few steps and you may have just saved yourself a visit from a plumber. I have had issues in the past with leaky faucets, and I have found that visiting the big box home improvement stores have been a lot of help. The works are filled with knowledge about plumbing and they give some great advice, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Hair clogs in the sink and tub: We all have hair, and that hair does not always stick on our heads and when we get showered it goes right down the drain and starts to add up and before you know it, you have a clog. You can use drain catcher to block the hair, but if you are like me you will forget to use the drain catch and will end up with clogged pipes. Roto-Rooter to the rescue! The gel Hair Clog Removal is very easy to use, and in minutes you will have a clean running drain.

I have never tried this brand before.
I've never tried any of them.
I have never tried any plumbing fixes myself
We get a lot of clogs with our very long hair!
I have tried the natural 'earthworm'. Didn't work for me.
No plumbing fixes. Sorry.
We thought we fixed it, but now the drains are really slow again. This would be great to try and see if this will work for us.
When we were younger, we did most of our own plumbing repairs, which saved us tons of money!
yes my hubby is handy and fixes the sinks and toilets
Yes, my husband is very handy with smaller plumbing issues!
oh yes many times, but it wasn't me but my husband
Yes we have succeeded in getting rid of slow drains
For light clogs I used baking soda and white vinegar. I poured some baking soda down the drain and followed that with white vinegar. I let this sit overnight. It DID clear things up. This did not work though for a tough clog.
