Brenton Thwaites, is best known for his roles in Gods of Egypt and Disney's Maleficent. He was recently named the CinemaCon breakthrough performer of the year, joining the past winners big names such as Chris Pratt and Amy Schumer He is a star on the rise and we were very fortunate to be able to sit down and ask him some questions about his newest project Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. We were excited to see what he thought working on the set, how it was working with Johnny Depp and much more!

How does someone come across a role like this? How did Brenton become involved in the film?
“I auditioned a multiple amount of times with Ron and Chris here in L.A., and then I met the directors at a place in Venice Beach, and then the movie got put on hold for a while, and I re-auditioned about a year later. I met Jerry Bruckheimer and the producers, and then I just, and then I got the part out of nowhere”.
What was it like working opposite Johnny Depp as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow?
“It was terrifying. It's always terrifying because you never know what he's going to say or do, so you know, and it always results in humiliation for me. You are always, entering a scene, thinking this guy now is five movies worth of Jack Sparrow. And he's on the ball, kind of irreverent and impulsive, You just anticipate what he's going to do and say, so that's great because, as an actor, it kind of improves your acting in the sense that you're always open and free and relaxed to go with the flow, but also pretty terrifying”.
Recently you became a father, what is it like knowing you've done a few Disney films, knowing your child will see these films one day?
“It's great being a part of Disney because, as a studio, it really, plays for the younger audiences, and I did a movie released in 2014 called Maleficent which something I can't wait for my daughter to see. Pirates may take a while just because it's quite scary. Maleficent is, as well, but I know, there's moments in Pirates where I kind of even get scared, you know. I think it might take a while. Maybe until next year when she's two”.
We laughed and joked that perhaps after she is potty trained then he can see what movies he will bring his daughter too. Brenton chuckles and said, “One year at a time, I don't even know about letting kids see movies yet”. That is so cute, I remember those days as a first time parent having to learn each and every thing about raising a child from what to feed them to basic things like what age to take them to see a movie.
As a newcomer to this whole Pirates universe, did you ever feel like the filmmakers value your input as a newcomer?
“I was thinking, wow, it's really rained, because my first day on the set, it had been pouring for months or weeks, and the town of Saint Martin was covered in mud. Everything they used it in the movie is really cool and dramatic, and adds to the dirtiness of the pirate's world, but I remember thinking, I'm going to have to get some new shoes”.

What is your hope that audience takes away from the film?
What is your hope that audience takes away from the film?
“I just hope they're entertained. It's the kind of movie that never loses its drive and has so many action pieces set pieces; comedic elements; romance; supernatural; there's kind of something for everyone in this movie. I hope everyone takes something from it and connects with the characters”.
It was nice chatting with Brenton he was so down to earth and sweet. He reminded me of my brother with his love of skateboarding, when asked if he brought his skateboard to the set he said he wished he did, but he had the chance to check out an electric skateboard, and after he tried it, he chuckled and thought “there was a of sense the whole studio thinking, get Brenton off that skateboard! I don't care what happens, but get that kid off that thing”.
I can imagine, they must have not liked the skateboarding on the set idea at all, with all of the cost to filing they did not need one of the stars with a broken arm or leg! One of my favorite parts of the interview was when Brenton was did you take anything from the set? According to Brenton “I didn't, but if this ever gets back to the producer, I would've liked to have taken a rowboat because I told her (my mom) before we wrap the movie, that I would bring her a rowboat home and make a veggie garden out of it”. That is so nice, such a cute gesture, I hope you get that rowboat for your mom Brenton!

I have seen the entire series and this will be a great way to end a holiday weekend. I absolutely can't wait to see it. It looks like such a fun movie.
I'm definitely interested to see Brendon's character in the movie. I'm glad we're getting to meet some new characters in this addition to the series.
I've heard great things about this movie. I love it when movie series keep being awesome past the first movie! Can't wait to see it.
Great interview. I've seen this young man in some movie last year I just can't remember what movie it was. I'm sure his daughter is going to love his dad's awesome movies when she's old enough to watch them!
What a great interview. He doesn't look old enough to be a father. I can't wait to see this movie. I love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
I thought he looked way too young to have any kids of his own. If I were to have guessed, I would have said that he was about 14 or 15 years old! He has such a baby face.
Pirates of the Caribbean is just totally awsome this interview was great
That looks like it will be so much fun, I would love to be there
