Are you a Disney
fan? A fan of the Disney parks? A big Disneyland fan? Even wonder what type of
shops there are in the park, what rides are there? What events and parades are
going on these days? And how the Disneyland of the past was? Well The
Disneyland Encyclopedia Updated Third Edition answers all of these questions
and so much more!
Since it’s humble
beginnings in the mid-1950’s, Disneyland has captured the imagination of
millions of visitors. Author Chris Strodder launches his new, completely
updated and expanded The Disneyland Encyclopedia Updated Third Edition
(Santa Monica Press/April 2017) with over 50 new entries and 300
new photos. The Disneyland
Encyclopedia Updated Third
Edition spans the entire history of the park, from its founding
more than 60 years ago to the present day.
This fascinating book
features detailed explorations of 600 Disneyland topics, including lands,
attractions, restaurants, stores, events, and significant people. Each of the
main encyclopedia entries illuminates the history of a Disneyland landmark,
revealing the initial planning strategies for the park’s iconic attractions and
detailing how they evolved over the decades.
Paralleling
Disneyland’s continuous growth, The
Disneyland Encyclopedia Updated Third Edition is the largest yet.
Since the first edition appeared in 2008 with 502 entries, Strodder has added
another hundred. There are 55 brand-new entries for this third edition. Among
them are:
- new structures that have recently
joined or will soon join the park (including Star Wars Land)
- new exhibits (see Season of the Force)
- new events and parades
(Egg-stravaganza, Paint the Night, etc.)
- new profiles of Disneyland’s Imagineers
and performers (like Tony Baxter, Steve Martin, and the Side Street
Strutters)
- new entries for movies and books with
scenes set in Disneyland (Saving Mr. Banks and Little Man of Disneyland)
- and all-new individual entries for some
longtime Disneyland favorites (Big Thunder Trail, Fort Wilderness,
Mailboxes, Mouse Ears, Windows of Enchantment, and many more)
In addition, Strodder
added topics that aren’t exactly inside Disneyland, but they’re still important
to its history: entries for Harbor Boulevard, the Heliports, and new profiles
of some influential “outsiders” who helped shape and support the park (such as
Arrow Development, Ray Bradbury, and Keith Murdoch).
Enriching this unique
A-to-Z chronicle are profiles of the personalities who imagined and engineered
the kingdom known as “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Discover unbuilt concepts,
including Liberty Street, Rock Candy Mountain, and Chinatown, and delight in
fascinating trivia about long-lost Disneyland features, from the real rifles in
the shooting gallery that was once located on Main Street to the jet-packed
Rocket Man who flew above Tomorrowland. The new “Mouscellany" feature adds
fun facts, hidden secrets, and odd trivia to the third edition.
I was very fortunate to be able to check out a copy of The Disneyland Encyclopedia Updated Third
Edition. As you may have guessed we love Disney. We love to visit the parks as
much as we can and we visit Walt Disney World at least two times a year. But
Disneyland is a treat for us, we only get to visit every few years so
when we do we are pretty excited and we want to soak in as much as we can. I
was very excited to have the opportunity to read this book, especially since we
are headed back to Disneyland this summer!
Disneyland is like to other, from one of a kind snacks that
you can only get there to amazing character interactions that can only happen
at Disneyland, as much as we love Disney World, I think we love Disneyland even
more. Disneyland has a quaintness, and charm that is all its own. I thoroughly enjoyed
reading all about the rides, the shops and the experiences that are still there
and that have come and gone. One of the experiences that I have never done and
is closed for now (hopefully not for good though?) is the Davy Crockett's
Explorer Canoes, I am so sorry to have missed this classic experience in the
park, I hope it is open for our next visit!
This book is so much more than just information about
Disneyland, this book transports you there! If you are planning a trip, or if
you would like to learn more about a park you would love to visit one day, this
is for you. If you are looking for a great insight to a park that fans have
loved for over 60 years be sure to pick up a copy of The Disneyland Encyclopedia Updated Third Edition the retail
