Join Peanuts and Rock the Vote! A great interview with Nikki DeLoach and your chance to #Win

It is election season again, are you ready to vote? There is a lot of talk going around for each of the candidates, but I have an election to tell you about that is bit less stressful and a lot more fun. Have you seen the Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign? The campaign encourages people to visit peanutsrocksthevote.com, where they can cast a ballot for the Peanuts character of their choice for President, then register to vote in the real fall election right from the website. Who will you vote for?

Being a Peanuts Ambassador, I got to join in on a conference call with actress-singer Nikki DeLoach (she currently plays the mom in the very complicated mother-daughter relationship on MTV’s irreverent comedy Awkward!), to talk about the Peanuts/Rock the Vote get-out-the-vote collaboration called “Peanuts Rocks the Vote.” Nikki was as a child member of The Mickey Mouse Club, along with Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, and Keri Russell!— stars in one of the fantastic celebrity YouTube PSAs promoting the Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign. Here’s is her video:

During our interview Nikki we got to ask her about this campaign and how it came about, here is what she said:

Question:   Tell us about the Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign.

Nikki: This is a partnership between Peanuts and Rock the Vote, which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that’s been encouraging and helping young people to register to vote since 1990.

When you go to Peanuts Rocks the Vote dot com, you’ll find a mock presidential election going on among the Peanuts characters: Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, and Franklin. You can read their bios and their platforms, and then you can vote for your favorite.

Then, right there on the website, there’s a button that says “Register,” and when you click on that, Rock the Vote will help you register to vote in your location.

Question: Why is Peanuts doing this?

Nikki: Politics has been a recurring theme in the Peanuts comic strip for decades—Charles Schulz often had the characters running for president during actual presidential election years. He even had Lucy talking about wanting to be the first female president!

So Schulz believed in our democratic system, and Peanuts wanted to play their part by helping people register to vote. But of course, they do it with a unique Peanuts flair!

Question: A lot of celebrities—including yourself!—have taped fun PSAs promoting the Peanuts election and the Peanuts Rocks the Vote campaign. What made you want to do one?

Nikki
: I just feel that it’s such a privilege to be a citizen of this country, and part of the deal is that we participate in the election process. I know sometimes people, especially young people, feel that their vote doesn’t count or doesn’t matter, but of course that’s absolutely not true! It’s so important that everyone use their voice and their vote. And this was such a fun way to get that message out!

If you would like to Rock the Vote with Peanuts, be sure to visit peanutsrocksthevote.com, where you can cast a ballot for the Peanuts character of their choice for President, then register to vote in the real fall election right from the website!

I would vote for Linus. He has lots of common sense. He is religious. He is a thoughtful well spoken candidate. And we could all use a blue blankie. Blankies for all!
