A bunny as a cop and a fox as a scam-artist…how can this possibly work?! It did and it was wonderful to watch. Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Zootopia is a movie that will suck you in and not let go. The premise of the movie is that a bunny Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) wants to leave her small rural town where her family runs a carrot farm and move to the big city of Zootopia and become of all things a police officer! She makes the big move and runs into a scam-artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) who gets the best of her on her first day on the force. A job that no one including her parents and her superior officer a water buffalo named Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) think she’s qualified for or can actually be successful at.

Without giving away any major plot lines Judy is determined to solve a mysterious case and is only given a few days to figure it out…she goes to uncover a nefarious plan and now has to enlist the help of her scam-artist friend Nick to help her get to the bottom of it. This is a great movie, and I know its been said a million times before about a lot of movies but this one is really fun for the whole family. 

To see so many different animals represented on the screen and done so well that they look life like is a testament to the quality of animators that the Walt Disney Studio’s has. The art is an amazing aspect of this film, but the story is the real driving aspect of it. If the story stunk no matter how well it was animated it would have been awful, but this is a great story with a great message that tells kids to strive for goals and that with hard work and determination you can achieve anything you dream of. My family and I loved this movie so much! 

When we saw this in the theater's we just got to see the movie and that was great, but now that it’s on DVD we get something that we don’t get in theater's and that’s bonus features. With a movie like Zootopia that has animals of every species and size you wonder about how they were able to bring these animals to life on the screen and actually make it believable to the audience, with the Zoology feature hosted by Ginnifer Goodwin you get to see just how it happened! You’ll be given a rare look into the thought process of Disney Animators and a look at the ground breaking technology they used to produce this beautiful film.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. 

 Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”).

That’s just one of the features on the DVD, you’ll also get The Origin of an Animal Tale - this follows the story from start to finish, you get to see the process of story writing as it happens and you even get to see something that would be considered a rather bold move by switching main character late in the production process! Research: A True Life Adventure – this follows the filmmakers around the globe to find the inspiration they needed to make this film and we also follow them to Disney’s Animal Kingdom where they were able to study the animals behavior and movements so they looked as natural as they could on the screen. Z.P.D. Forensic Files – like movie Easter eggs? 

This is where you’ll find out about all those little hidden gems. Scoretopia – Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino shows you have five of cinema’s greatest percussionists helped to score the movie, music is an important aspect of film and this feature lets you see behind the curtain. 

Deleted Characters/Scenes – Director’s Bryan Howard and Rich Moore introduce you to those citizens and scenes who weren’t quite up to being in the film.  Alternate Opening – we get to see a young Judy rescue a classmate and she realizes there is life beyond the carrot farm and she might just actually be able to have a future in law enforcement. Wild Times! Pitch – Nick does his best impersonation of Walt Disney and tries to convince bankers to back him on his idea of an amusement park for predators called Wild Times! Another scheme from our resident con-artist.

Alternate Homesick Hopps – Judy’s first day as a cop (meter maid) was frustrating and a call from her parents started out as heartfelt but quickly turned to tough love when they found out their little girl wasn’t a cop but a meter maid. Detective Work – Judy borrows a fellow detective’s computer to do research and we find out that it is no small task! Alternate Jumbo Pop – This is a really early version of the story when Nick was still the main character, the filmmakers and Jason Bateman took hustling to a whole new level here. Hopps' Apartment – When Judy’s entire family (remember she’s a bunny…) comes to visit her unannounced they’re amazed to find out the company she’s keeping. 

The Taming Party – In an early very emotionally packed clip from an early version of Zootopia, Judy attends her first taming party where she discovers the deeper plight of the predators. 

           

 To round out these amazing extras is a music video by Shakira for the song Try Everything. After watching these wonderful extras you’ll be glad you did try everything! Zootopia is available on DVD and Blu-Ray everywhere today!
