A Holiday Trip to Denver

Denver has always been a destination for holidaymakers looking for access to some of the West’s most epic skiing and snowboarding, but today many people are heading to the capital of the rocky mountain state to experience the tastes and sites of the city itself. The mile high city has a rocking life that is supported by its many local microbreweries, a few of which are owned by the town’s mayor, and has also quickly developed a reputation for being one of the country’s great foodie destinations. If you’re considering making your way to Colorado and are booking your hotels in Denver, here are a few things to see along the way.

1. Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum is not only home to a wonderful collection of American artwork, but it’s dedicated to preserving and displaying both historical and contemporary work by Native American artists. The museum houses avant-garde multimedia exhibitions, and its $110-million Frederic C Hamilton wing is a site to behold in itself.

2. Denver Microbrew Tour

Denver has long been one of the USA’s most forward thinking brewing cities, and a tour and taste at the local microbreweries will quickly show you why. Head to the LoDo district, where tours begin from both the River North Brewery and the Rock Bottom Brewery.

3. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre

This 9,000 seat musical site of Red Rocks sits in a naturally formed red sandstone amphitheater, about 10 miles west of the city of Denver. Concerts happen in the open air, with many famed artists recording live albums due to the site’s amazing natural acoustics. Some famous bands to record here include U2, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, and Imagine Dragons.

4. Coors Field

For sports fans the chance to catch the action of a baseball game at the famed Coors Field is a wonderful opportunity, as the park is known for producing some of the most gargantuan home-run balls in all of baseballs — due to the park's elevation and thin air. The local team is the Colorado Rockies, and tickets can be found for as cheap as $4.

5. Mt. Evans

If you happen to have access to a car and want to escape the city for a day, then a trip to Mt Evans will reward you with some of the country’s most dramatic views. The alpine summit, which opened in 1930, is the highest paved road in North America.

Whether it’s your first time visiting Denver or you’re returning for another go, you’re bound to find plenty of things to love about this city in the mountains.
