With Mother's Day close at hand, I got
to thinking about growing up and how something's have changed and
others have remained exactly as they were when I was a kid. I
attribute a lot of who I am to my mother, she's been a big influence
on my life and has taught me sometimes completely by accident some
very valuable life lessons. But the one thing she's taught me over
the years is that keeping the family traditions in tact is very
important.
Every year we have a tradition of
gathering for a week in Ocean City, New Jersey for a family vacation.
And this is where I learned lessons that over the years have turned
something I was not interested in into something now love to do.
When we're together on vacation the thing we love coming together for
is the traditional big family meals.
Each night someone cooks the family a meal, it's here where my love for cooking grew. Learning how to cook from my grandmother, great-grandmother and mother as well as my aunt's turned a little spark into a roaring fire. We've been doing this for as long as I can remember and it's important to us to keep the tradition going and now it's my daughter's turn to learn.
My mother, being the
oldest of her siblings, is the one who is in charge of getting things
organized and together and I see how important it is to her to make
sure things run smoothly. And Kmart know just what moms can use check out, kmart.com/mothersday. My mom loves to cook and I have over the years
bought her many gifts to keep the food coming! Just last year we
bought her new pans from Kmart along with a new blender. A chef is
only as good as his or her tools, so it's important to have great
tools!

Now that we're all older, I can see
just how difficult it is to get all these different lives to come
together for a week. Growing up it was easy, we all lived within
minutes of each other so getting together was a snap. Now that all
the first batch of kids are now grandparents and their kids have
kids, and we all live scattered around the country...it's not so
easy. But it's important to us to get together.
This was a tradition
started by my grandparents and has been kept alive, and now it looks
like it'll be up to me since I'm the oldest of “kids” to keep
this going. With all the years I spent helping out in the kitchen as
a little girl I've become a pretty good cook and this summer I'll
have my chance to cook for the whole family when we get together in a
couple of month's. It's odd to to me that it'll be my turn...it just
seemed like yesterday I was the little girl fetching the spices out
of the closet or the butter out of their fridge.
We laugh and fight and make-up and
laugh and fight and make-up....but it still ends up the same way
every year that we had a great time together. Family is important and
that's something my mother has instilled into me from the time I was
a little girl.
That's something I'm instilling into my daughter and it's something I hope that in several years she takes up the cause and keeps the tradition going.
Something as simple as cooking a family favorite meal can spark hours of fond reminiscing and it's important to be able to look back on the good old times but it's also important to look ahead at the great times yet to be had.

I don't have a Kmart near me, so I haven't been to one in years. I used to shop there a lot when I was younger and still lived at home with my parents, though :)
I started shopping at Kmart recently. I can find a lot of neat things when I shop there! I love their clearance section!
All but one Kmart store has closed in our shopping areas and the one that is nearest to us isn't a very inviting store. But when I was younger we shopped there all the time because the prices were great.
Socks and slippers. She's all about socks and slippers. I am too, for that matter.
Unfortunately, my Mom is no longer with us, but I would love an assortment of items :) They have some great jewelry and bath products. :)
We don't have a Kmart near us either. I actually haven't been in a Kmart since I was little.
My mom was a big Kmart shopper, but she passed away about a year ago. I love their affordable prices and great quality.
I love Kmart! We use to have one closer to us, but unfortunately it was closed down. I'm sad that it's no longer near us, but there is one that's not to far away still. I love their great prices!
I think my mom would love a new lounge chair to match the one my dad has
I love the huge outdoor garden center that our kmart has. my mom would love some new flowers for the garden and maybe some sweet sounding wind chimes.
I think she would be like any mom and love anything! I think as a mom we love the gift of time with our kids more then gifts, though that's a nice perk!
I have always loved shopping at Kmart and used to go with my grandmother as a little girl. We still have them here but there are very few locations left. You certainly can not beat their prices!
This is so cute. I remember shopping for ingredients with my mom. I miss shopping with her!
I don't have a Kmart nearby but if there was one, I bet my mom would like jewelry from it. She loves accessories for her work outfits!
I wish we still had a Kmart here. It was my favorite store to go to when i was younger. My Mom and i used to go and shop for clothes there.
Family meals are a big part of my family as well. I have not cooked for everyone in my family at once, but getting together with my whole family is always fun!
I have not seen a Kmart in my area, so I do not get to shop there much. I love you tradition!
Our Kmart is out of the way, so I often forget about it. I do love their rewards program, though, so I need to head over that way for Mother's day gifts!
I always thought Kmart had great items. I know my mom goes to the one by us often.
My mother-in-law was a KMart fan. Many great deals and now they have teamed up with many other brands from Sears, they offer a lot more.
When I was little so many of my mom's gifts came from Kmart! It was wonderful to shop at such a great store.
Luckily I still have a Kmart not too far away. I don't shop there too often but I do shop there a few times a year.
