The Adventure and the Awe —Family Vacations to Egypt

If you’re wondering where to take the kids on vacation this year then why not consider Egypt? The ancient world of pyramids, mummies, pharaohs and hieroglyphics is sure to spark the kids' imagination as you explore sites along the Nile.  Cairo 

Whether you choose to take a Nile river cruise or stay in a hotel, Cairo is the place to start your Egyptian adventure. It's here that you’ll find theNational Museum, a magical, labyrinthine building full of dusty glass cabinets where the blue and gold death mask of ancient Egypt’s best-known pharaoh, Tutankhamun, is on display. You can also view thousands of other precious artefacts that have been excavated from ancient sites.

It’s on the outskirts of Egypt’s capital that the country's most iconic landmarks, the pyramids, are found. Stories of how they were constructed are sure to get the kids' imagination fired up, as will seeing the huge structures up close. Stay for the Giza pyramid light show in the evening when the voice of the sphinx brings their story to life.

 The Red Sea coast

If your family enjoy active holidays then Egypt’s Red Sea coast is a dream destination. Some of the world’s most spectacular dive sites are found in the Red Sea around the resort of Sharm el Sheikh. In fact, this area is one of the scuba capitals of the world, and you can see kaleidoscopic coral, tropical fish, sea turtles and larger ocean dwellers such as barracuda around the reefs. If you're travelling with younger kids they can explore the underwater world by snorkeling (they’ll love it!). The area also offers a variety of water sports for kids of all ages, from banana boating to paragliding. Inland from Sharm you can take a jeep safari or camel track into the desert.

 Luxor 

The largest concentration of ancient treasures in the country is found around the southern city of Luxor. It’s here that you can explore the tombs of pharaohs, queens and nobles in in the desert valleys around the city that became their resting places. Inside the tombs, walls are painted with hieroglyphs and murals that tell stories about ancient culture and the afterlife. The Colossi of Memnon, two giant stone statues, also stand on the outskirts of Luxor along with the sprawling Temple of Karnak.
