Our Take:
We had the chance to play tourists in our city today thanks to Segway
Tours from Wheels of Fun. It’s kind of fun to see what others see when coming
here, when you live in a city like Philadelphia which is oozing in history it
gets lost on you in a way. Independence Hall? To me it’s just a
building. The same with the Liberty Bell and Betsy Ross’ house, these are
things we pass everyday just going about our regular day to day activities.
They’re there, always have been, they’re a part of life. So getting a chance to
see it as a “tourist” was intriguing to us. And this might actually answer my
husband’s favorite question…why the heck do people visit Philadelphia?
We make the long trek to 6th and
Market, it’s maybe a 9 minute drive from our house, and you purchase
your tickets at the desk inside the Independence Visitors Center another
building that gets lost on us. We’ll do that on another tourist day.
This was not the first Segway experience for my husband and I we, had taken a few Segway tours in Disney World and we loved those. Being on a Segway is a fun experience but it requires balance and concentration. Even though we had been on Segway’s in the past, we still needed a refresher on how to ride them. Each tour starts with safety instructions and hands on training so after the training we were refreshed, the instructors were patient, made sure we were comfortable and ready to ride.

We learned many historical facts to more than 20 of Philly's most sought
after attractions. It was such fun
gliding by learning how our country was
formed on those very streets we were gliding down.
We passed the Liberty Bell, Betsy
Ross House, Washington Square, Penn's Landing, Powel House, 1st Bank, various
murals and art, and so much more! The tour brought us around for roughly 3.5
miles, luckily my feet did not feel like we walked 3+ miles, the Segway’s are
such a cool way to travel. I sure could use
one to get to work each day! Our instructor Abby was very nice and knowledgeable, and full of corny jokes (just kidding Abby! they were a little funny) like, "What was Washingtons favorite dance?" ------ The Independence! get it, ha ha! On a serious though Abby knew her stuff about the city, and we had fun and learned a lot.
The Old City Philadelphia tour is just about 1.5 hours to an hour (They also offer a Full City Tour that is a 3 hour tour that brings you to more spots in the city) . All in all we had a terrific day out, it was a beautiful day, and our Segway tour was great, we couldn’t have asked for a better time. We had fun playing tourists and seeing our city through the eyes of outsiders. I would recommend Segway Tours from Wheels of Fun it is a fun time, If you are planning a trip to Philadelphia you would have a great time on this wonderful tour, riding on the Segways! The Old City tour costs, $60 per person on weekdays, and $70.00 per person on weekends.
