***Disclosure: I attended The #IronMan3Event .
My flight, lodgings, and expenses were covered by Disney . Pictures provided by
Disney. All opinions are 100% mine. ***
But this trip was much more than just for Iron Man 3. I had the chance to be on the set of the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier!!! Well what is the surprise, you ask? I finally can share it with you all! Well I got to hold the shield too! I was able to take a picture with the shield, yes the real Captain American shield! The shield is so well known everyone loves the shield, right?
My daughter is a big fan of the shield too…..
Sure we all love the iconic shield! And I got to hold it, but I also got to see a set for the first time in my life it was wonderful. Being on set was amazing, the actors really work hard, and there is a lot to do to make a movie great, one thing is great props. Before we had the privilege of holding the shield, one of the greatest props of all time; we got to learn a bit more about the shield, from the man who made the shield, Russell
Bobbitt!
Russell Bobbitt, is a property master, he has made props for many movies, including Iron Man, Thor, and of course Captain America. Here is some of our chat with Russell, a great guy with a very cool job. Here are some behind the scenes looks from the making of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Q: How do you design and come up with the making
of the shield?
RUSSELL: This is “Captain
America 2” so I'm the first one to establish the, look of this thing. In our movie we have four different looks
because he goes into different scenarios, different missions. And he, applies, different material -- Marvel materials that help make the shield stealth in
different situations. And so we have four
different styles. In theory in the
Marvel lore, there’s one shield.
In this movie we have a couple surprises with
the shield. And it’ll appear that there
are different shields. But it’s only one
shield. That one shield I have to make
50 of them to accommodate all the different -- I have hard rubber, soft rubber,
fiberglass, metal to depending on if there’s an insert on it I use a metal one
‘cause it looks the best. We were able to hold one of these great shields,
we were given the hard rubber one to take a picture with, because of the
weight, the metal one must have some heavy weight to it…
Here is a photo of the lucky bloggers who got to hang out on set, you can see me in the last row, listening intently to Russell tell us about the shield.
So why do they have to have so many kinds of shields
on set?
RUSSELL: We need so many is because we do different sort... you know, if he’s walking around and it’s on his back, I can put a really clean nice heavy one on him. And when we photograph them from behind, it looks shiny and new like metal. When he takes it off and starts fighting with it, obviously we can’t hit each other with metal shields or the boys won’t be able to play very long. So, I make soft ones to accommodate this.

So here it is, my big picture! Me holding the real Captain America shield! This was so cool!
I was able to hold what not many outside of
Hollywood gets to hold, this amazing prop, a great photo opp that I will remember
forever! I am am such a lucky gal! This is the hard rubber version of the shield Russell spoke about. It was not heavy as you would think, it was light and easy to maneuver. I felt like a superhero, so cool! I am ready for action! Just looking at this great picture gets me even more excited to see the new movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I think this will be even better than the first movie. I had to break out the DVD of the original Captain American movie, just to get even more excited! And what did I see right away?
Yup, the shield! Just makes me so jazzed up to see the new movie! There is some more information I have to share with you all from the set, I can't share it as of yet... just make sure to stay tuned!

I am so ready for the next Captain America movie. My youngest has been running around wearing the captain america mask/hat from a costume and it's adorable. I guess we should invest in the shield.
What an exciting experience! I have to catch myself up on the earlier related movies before this comes out.
That must have been fun! My husband really wants to see this.
How fun. I wonder if my son will want to see this movie. Looks like one that would be great for a father-son movie date.
I can't wait to watch this movie! My teens wanted to be extras in the movie since it was filmed in Ohio.
HOW FUN IS THAT??? I love your face as you hold it- you look so thrilled! I want to take my son to this movie- he and I make "movie dates" so this can be great!
I can't wait to watch this movie. My teens wanted to be extras in the movie since some of it was filmed in Ohio. Wouldn't that have been cool?
That is so cool. I've met many actors, but it was always after the movie and they were publicizing it. I've never been to a working movie set.
Wow, that is so cool! I probably would have wanted to hold the rubber one too, I bet the metal one is super heavy!
I love that your children are in this post too!!!

That is so very cool. If that was my picture it would be enlarged and hanging on the wall, so I can look at it every day! LOL
I CANNOT WAIT!! I have three boys (6, 6, and 5) who are obsessed with the Avengers. I rented the movies to connect better with them but totally fell in love, myself!
It actually wasn't that heavy at all! It was lighter than I thought it would be!
Yep, that's pretty awesome! I am a wee bit jealous but so happy that you got this experience!
That sounds like an amazing experience. Looking forward to seeing the movie.
Looks like you are raising that girl up smart!
