My family means the
world to me, for me they are the most important things in life. When I was a
young girl I lived with my parents and my extended family, we had a home filled
with my aunts uncles cousins we had a full house. Sure it was hectic at times
but we were a close tight knit bunch who loved and helped each other out as
much as we could. This was a great way
to grow up, it made me the person I am today.
Life may be a bit different these
days we do not have a house full of family, it is just our small 3 person
family. Sure we have lots of extended family all over the city that we visit
and are with often. To be a Latin family today or una La Familia de Hoy , to me this means a mixture
of family friends we mix our cultures and family to make a unit that works.
Being a working mom, I am not home as much as I would like to be and I depend
on my extended Familia to help with my daughter, from bringing her to school to
picking her up from practice.I am blessed to have an amazing family who helps
me with what I need, and allows me the opportunity to work and raise my
daughter.
Johnson &
Johnson and Univision have launched a campaign to find an authentic, modern and
active family to become “La Familia de Hoy.” There are three families selected to compete
for the title of “La Familia de Hoy” . Each of the family are amazing, and
should be celebrated. I voted for the Olivera
Family I really identified most with the Olivera Family because they reminded
me a lot of my family. I picked the Olivera Family because Milena
reminds me of my mother she seems like a strong woman who can do it all, with
all of the children and the twins remind me of my daughter.
She loves dance and is a big fan of soccer. My daughter would live on the soccer field if she could, she is the next Mia Hamm that is for sure! And when I was a kid my Abuelita lived in the south and we would love to go and visit her, and we looked forward her visiting us, it was a great occasion for us all. And twins run in my family, so I have a special place in my heart for twins, we do not have twins (yet) but there are so many sets in my family.

I would like to
introduce you all to the Olivera family. A very international family, with a
huge passion for culture and sports. Milena, the mother, was born in Brazil,
lived in El Salvador for many years and speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English
fluently. She is a stay-at-home mom, and
also likes to write and perform in theater whenever her schedule allows.
Roberto, the father, is Peruvian/American, a photographer who also owns an
online business that imports handmade gifts from artisans around the world
(novica.com). He has a dedicated passion for soccer and also coaches the teams
of his twins, Lucas and Ana Luiza (7). The twins La familia de HOY 9 are in
second grade, love school, enjoy playing sports, dancing and crafts. The
youngest member of the family (for now) is Matteo (1); a newborn baby will be
joining the family in March 2014.
Milena and Roberto have been together for over 15 years. Maternal grandparents live in Brazil; Paternal grandparents live in Texas, and visit frequently. What do we like the most about the Olivera family? They’re a modern, aspirational, healthy and very loving family, with a huge passion for soccer and the arts. Milena – Mother, Roberto – Father, Lucas - 7 year old boy, Anna Luisa - 7 year old girl, Mateo - 12 Months March 2014 baby - (Johnson’s Baby, Children’s), Grandma - lives in Texas.
Make sure to log on to Univision.com and vote for your favorite familia to help them become the spokes family for Johnson & Johnson in 2014. Make sure to head on over to vote for your favorite family today! It only takes a few seconds, why not give the Olivera Family a vote, to me they are what I see as the perfect La Familia de Hoy.

Hey, that's really cool, I own several pieces from NOVICA! Awesome that you have your extended family nearby. A lot of my fiance's immediate and extended family live in town or nearby, while mine are scattered all through the globe. Thank goodness for phones, Facebook, and Skype to keep up with my loved ones anywhere! :)
What a wonderful program and chance to vote for modern families. It certainly takes a lot to be be a modern family from A-Z! Sounds like these families have a lot to share!
Thanks for sharing... my entire family lives in Germany; hubbies all live close by; some relatives are scattered across the nation.. guess we aren't the only ones with family all over the world :-) that's life and thanks to all the technology we can be close no matter where we are
lovely family! and i love that you have so much help from family -- it seems to not be the norm anymore and that makes me sad. we KNEW our grandparents growing up. and aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. people are so busy today they forget to make time for family!
That's so nice that you have family nearby that can help you when you need them. I miss not being near my family.
Awe, what a great family!! Heading over to vote now!
I love Novica, how cool to know the man behind it! I think modern families today can't be defined & that's what I love about them!
I think modern families are made up of different people than just mom+dad+kids. Like my in-laws, for example, they are all about trans-generational families like grandparents helping to raise and support their kids and grandkids.
I might be the odd ball here, but I would LOVE to live with extended family. Growing up, it was just me and my sister and our parents, 2 grandparents and 1 uncle. That's it. So very small family. We have 5 kids so far and I'd love to live with our parents and kids' families if a home was big enough.
