I am always looking for a way to be better to mother earth, we recycle reuse and try to do as much as we can. I want to set a good example for my daughter, we only have one earth and we have to take care of it. I was very fortunate to be able to check out a few Tetra Pak carton packages, designed for maximum efficiency and environmental friendliness, are one small way to live smarter Become Carton Smart
I was sent Pacific Foods Organic Pumpkin Pure, Pacific Foods Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce, Pacific Foods Organic Chicken Simply Stock.
I have to admit, I would usually get all three of these in cans, it is just something I was accustomed to doing. I never knew these pantry staples came in cartons as well. Well I am sure you are asking is the food from the cartons as good as the food from the cans? Well I am happy to say they are! Some are even better, wouldn’t it be great to have cranberry sauce on the table without the can lines? Something a little fancier, and less can like? With the cartons you have a cute little cranberry rectangle, that looks great on the table and is easy to serve.
Changing the type of package you buy you food from is a small change, but it can make a major difference. Carton packages preserve the flavor and nutrients of foods without the use of preservatives. There is no tinny taste in your food like there is when you buy food from cans. Who likes that yucky tinny taste from cans? No one that is for sure. With cartons there is less waste, cartons create 60% less landfill waste than cans, and are made of 70% paper from selectively harvested, re-grown trees. Cartons use 1/3 of the packaging compared to cans!
I went through some of my favorite family recipes and I wanted to substitute one of the ingredients with a Tetra Pak carton package ingredient.
Moist Pumpkin Bread
Ingredients: 3 cups Sugar , 3 cups Flour, 2 teaspoons Baking Soda, ½ Tablespoons Baking Powder, 1-½ teaspoon Salt, 1 teaspoon Nutmeg, 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, 3 whole Eggs, 1 carton of pumpkin, 1 cup Water, 1 cup Oil,
Preparation: Add wet ingredients eggs, pumpkin, oil, water mix well, then add the dry Ingredients. Mix together well with a until this is smooth. Grease loaf pan (you may need more than one) and pour equal amounts of the yummy batter into each pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour. Test with a toothpick, and if it comes out clean it is finished. Set out to cool for 5-10 minutes.
This bread is amazing! So moist and delicious, a real pleaser. My family and co-workers just devowored this pumpkin bread. Using the carton of pureed pumpkin was easy, and it tasted fresh and delicious a great addition to this family favorite treat.
Overall we were very happy with the carton products and we will be purchasing from cartons again for the taste and to take that little step and get something that is better for the earth. Cartons produce great tasting food with little waste! There are so many of your favorite holiday classics that come in cartons, from pumpkin to green beans make sure to check them out. For us ingredients matter, and having food that is not packed full of preservatives is a great thing. Why not pick up some carton foods this holiday season and make a difference?

I haven't tried Tetra Pak before. I haven't seen them in my stores. but I do really like the idea behind their packaging.
We buy the organic pumpkin in the Tetra pack at our coop. I love it!
I really prefer the tetra paks over the foil packs for juice boxes. I haven't tried too many other things in tetra paks though.
We love using Tetra Paks. They are fantastic.
I love Tetra paks. Thanks so much for all the great info. I was not aware of half of it.
I've only seen soup stock in this form of packaging, but I will be looking closer now. I really like that it helps preserve the taste better!
I've been trying to use organic products whenever I can. The pumpkin bread looks delicious! :)
They have great stuff! Your recipe sounds delicious, too.
Some of my daughter's gluten free foods come in Tetra Packs. I like it because I am really into recycling.
