Our Take:

When we took our trip to California a few months back we had the chance to see Monsters University at the El Capitan Theatre, we all loved the movie but my poor husband spent most of the time trying to get comfortable in the seat. We picked the front row of the balcony because that’s where my husband wanted to sit since he never had the chance to see a movie from a balcony and here was the perfect opportunity to cross that off his list. The only issue the El Capitan was built when the average male was 5’6” so leg room wasn’t all the important to them and while my husband enjoyed the movie greatly he felt he really didn’t get the see the whole movie. He has now since we had the chance to watch Monsters University again on blu ray and this time in our living room he had plenty of leg room!

In a nutshell Monsters University is the prequel to Monsters Inc. we get to see how Mike and Sully became Mike and Sully and how Randall was Randy at first who was a nerd with glasses. We were introduced to a whole slew of new monsters like Dean Hardscrabble, Squishy, Don, Terry & Terri and many more. The story follows Mike and Sully and their completely different paths to Monsters University, Sully was a legacy he was a Sullivan and great things were expected of him because of the family he came from and Mike on the other hand was just a little green guy who had to fight for everything he had and wasn’t given the chance to show he could scare because well he was the little green guy.

 The extras in this dvd set are great, the deleted scenes are pretty funny and I especially liked the short, the Blue Umbrella. Pixar’s shorts are always amazing, and this was just a great as I expected it to be. If you have ever felt like you are just searching for that someone that would make your life even more special, then make sure to check out The Blue Umbrella, this will be an award winning short I am sure.

 The movie was fantastic, after watching it again for the second time my husband who really loved Monsters Inc. (mainly because of Boo) declared it better than the original even with it not having Boo in it. This movie was a laugh a minute, from seeing Mike a little Mike to the guy’s not starting off as the best of friends to the guy’s joining the misfit fraternity of Oozma Kappa (we’re OK!) and helping them and themselves to believe in themselves and to become the go to fraternity at Monsters University with a lot of hilarious hijinks along the way. All in all this was a fantastic movie with wonderful voice work and the animation was beautiful. This movie really shines on blu ray and is loaded with features and bonus content. Remember we’re OK and you’ll be too when you buy Monsters University on blu ray!

So if you are looking for a great family fun movie, look no further than Monsters University. With the holidays right around the corner (they will be here before you know it) if you are looking for a great stocking stuffer idea, the special kids on your holiday gift list are going to adore this great movie. This would make a great gift, for that special Disney fan on your holiday gift list this year.
