Can you believe it is almost time to set our clocks back? Where has the time gone? It seems like it was just summertime? Well as soon as school starts it seems like time flys by for me even faster (I am sure it must feel slower for my daughter though…) and the months seem to zip by, it is almost Halloween! Do you know what else in coming up it is almost time to change your battery in your smoke detector. November 3rd is the day to change your clocks and change your batteries.
Energizer, the International Association of Fire
Chiefs, and fire departments nationwide join forces for the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program to raise
awareness of the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide
detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes. This is the 26thyear for the annual program and the message is still an important one.
Did you know, thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries
occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which
at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to
dead or missing batteries.* Remember to change the batteries in
your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when you set your clocks back –
it could help save a life.
Fire is such a scary thing it is something I try my best to be prepared to not have to battle. Thank God, our family has never been a victim of a fire. But I had a friend who was not as lucky as my family is. Her story was a terrible story that changed my life and how I feel about fire safety. Simply put her home did not have smoke alarms, a fire started in her home and she lost nearly everything. The most important losses were her five year old daughter, and her twin 2 year old daughters. It was so very sad, and horrible. After this terrible event, I made sure my daughter was always educated about fire safety and we always, test and maintain all of our fire alarms. You must have smoke detectors in your home! They are there to save lives!!!

Where we live, it's an easy exit--out the window or the door.
