Three Great Ways to Entertain the Kids on a Rainy Day

When the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worse, all you mums will know only too well that the kids are going to be bouncing off the walls. Advance planning for these occasions will help you to create a boredom proof schedule of activities that will get the kids moving and keep their brains ticking over. Then they will (hopefully) be sufficiently tired to sleep in the evening. Here are three sure-fire ways to entertain kids aged between five and ten years old.


The Kids Only Cook Out

There are plenty of child-friendly recipe books that feature easy to make and spectacular  looking creations that taste amazing too. Consider old classics like macaroni cheese, Mexican fajitas, hamburgers and for dessert, banana split. Supervise from a distance and try and get them excited about doing the dishes too. Baking something easy like rice krispie treats can be better for the little cooks too. Good luck with that!

The Wii: A Little Box of Entertainment

Nintendo Wii games are a great way to gobble up a whole afternoon without anybody noticing. Most of them involve expending vast amounts of energy hitting invisible tennis balls or dancing. Try out Just Dance: Disney Party, which will sort the kids out with dance moves for the day. The critically acclaimed Mario Galaxy 2 is another great option for families. This has everybody's old favorite Mario cruising past candy-colored planets and
battling enemies along the way. It's a bit tricky for younger ones to get the hang of this game,  but plenty of cues from the princess will guide them along the way. It's a marvelous way to keep them occupied when it's raining cats and dogs.


The DIY Dress-Up Box

Make sure that you pick up some wonky and bizarre items of clothing from the charity shop  the next time you are in. This can include costume jewelry  feathers and vintage hats. Keep old make-up for this same purpose as well. Encourage the kids to become playwrights, actors, and set designers and to put on their own show. They will relish the opportunity to ham it up,
and this is a perfect opportunity to take a video of them too.

Nurturing their creativity, giving them a good workout and teaching them a couple of new skills may seem like a tall order for one afternoon, but it's all very achievable.
