Imagine going back in time, to visit Hollywood’s golden era
to visit a place that looks like it has stepped out of the past an amazing time
machine? Well that is what you get with Disney’s El Capitan theater. Don’t worry they are fully up to date with the
great sound system, and the tremendous screen. Just the day before we enjoyed the 3-D Iron
Man 3 premiere my fellow bloggers and I were able to check out a tour of this
great theater. From the grand outside,
to the amazing archways in the entrance.
I loved the beautiful light fixtures that illuminated in different
colors. The theater is filled with props and special rotating exhibits that
have to do with the current film they are showing. We were able to see costumes
from OZ, they were spectacular. The theater is currently showing Iron Man 3 and
the special items that are shown in the theater are items from Stan Lee’s
personal collection. I am sure he has a
one of a kind collection, that my husband would just drool over!
This great theater was opened as a stage show only theater
in 1926. Stage shows were all the rage, and movies were quite new. The manager
of the El Capitan, made a gamble by showing the premiere of Citizen Kane (this
was seen as a unflattering movie, that other theaters refused to show) as a
movie. After the success of this premier, they figured that films were the way
to go. Years later Disney bought the theater, and decided on doing a major
overhaul and bring it back to its past glory. In 1989 the first Disney movie
premiered at the El Capitan, The Rocketeer. Coincidentally The Rocketeer was
the first stage show to be performed at the El Capitan. That is a great bit, of
Disney trivia!
We were treated to what a
birthday would be like at the El Capitan, a great celebration that would make
an extra special treat for that special person in your life. They thought of everything
the partygoers even have their own “red Carpet” to take pictures before your
party.
Make sure to check out the great party options at the El Capitan. I cannot
wait to share all of what this great theater has to offer when my family and I
visit the El Capitan in June. We are going to see Monsters University in a
grand fashion, a stage show and a movie.
While visiting Hollywood two years ago my family and I made
a quick trip to the Disney Soda Fountain, and when I say quick I mean quick! Or
tour guide gave us 45 minutes to visit the entire Hollywood Blvd!
Yes a mere 45
minutes to visit this amazing place.
When our time was almost up with about 5 minutes to go I saw the Disney Soda
Fountain, and I had to visit. We literally ran in, ordered some cupcakes (sadly
they do not seem to have the cupcakes anymore) and a cherry soda to go then we
ran to the tour bus. Luckily for me we had a bit more time to explore the shop
this time.
The store has so many great Disney items that I loved. This soda fountain is a sweet lover’s dream! I
cannot wait to go back in June when we are in California, I am finally going to
get to enjoy one of these ice cream treats. I love that they have ice cream specials,
that coincide with the current Disney movie that is playing in the theater.
Here is a picture of the OZ treat….
Looks great doesn’t it? Well I will be in the shop when they
are playing Monsters University, I wonder what treat they will have then? A
lime Mike treat? Or a blueberry Sully treat? I cannot wait to find out, I am
sure it will be great.
While at the Disney Soda Fountain were able to chat with the
general manager, Ed Collins, He told up
a bit about the “vault” in the Disney Soda Fountain:
“People ask me to talk
a little bit about the vault. If you’ve seen the home video marketing campaign,
we call it Walt’s Vault, right? It’s the video vault where the videos are kept
when they’re not sold. So it was a virtual marketing campaign. When we opened
Disney Soda Fountain we teamed up with Home Entertainment to have the real
vault at our location in Hollywood.
If you look at the
strip of film that rims the ceiling, that actually reflects the DVDs as they
came out starting in 2005. We should probably change this up, but we kinda like
it like this. A fun thing for our guests is to see how many of these movies
they can name.”
How many can you name from this film strip? I can name them
all. So if you are in the California area I would highly suggest taking in a
movie at the El Capitan, then enjoying a great sweet treat at The Disney Soda
Fountain, your family will just love it. My family surely will.
