Who knew American Cheese could be so revolutionary? Real kids deserve real cheese, not that
“processed cheese food” found in most American Cheese singles. That is why
Organic Valley and Healthy Child Healthy World are teaming up this August to
make sure that every parent out there knows that real food is the right way to
go for real kids.
Organic Valley is hitting the road with a multi-city mobile
tour urging parents to demand real food for real kids—all with the help of a
more wholesome grilled (organic!) cheese sandwich. To further support a food
system that makes for healthier kids, Organic Valley has committed to donate $1
(up to $25,000) for each pledge signature to Healthy Child Healthy World, a
nonprofit and national leader for nearly two decades, empowering parents to
protect children from harmful chemicals. Healthy Child Healthy World informs
and inspires millions of people to take action and create cleaner, greener,
safer environments where children and families can flourish.
Not only can American Cheese lovers and parents meet up with
the Organic Valley Truck, but they can also go online to
http://www.AmericanCheeseRevolution.com and sign the pledge to trigger a $1
donation to Healthy Child Healthy World. The Tour begins in California on
August 21 and ends in Illinois in mid-October, stopping in Oregon, Washington,
Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and
North Carolina along the way.
Here’s the pledge:
I pledge to get REAL! I will choose real food grown with
love on organic family farms, and without synthetic fertilizers or hormones,
antibiotics, or GMOs. I will refuse food
that is filled with unpronounceable chemicals, like "dextojunkozeen,"
or overly processed. I pledge to be part
of a food system that grows strong, fit kids, and a healthier future for all.
Back to those yummy grilled cheese sandwiches. The classic grilled cheese sandwich appeared
in the U.S. in the 1920s, when sliced bread and “American Cheese” became inexpensive
and readily available. Today, Americans
consume more than 2.2 billion grilled cheese sandwiches per year. Most are made with “American Pasteurized
Processed Cheese Food”, the number one selling cheese in the U.S. with more
than 300 million pounds sold in 2010 alone.
