On a nice sunny day in Philadelphia, a few fellow bloggers
and I had the chance to visit the down town Omni hotel, for a great breakfast
and some great company.
Hallmark put together a wonderful spread, and we were
able to hear from some actual Hallmark card writers, including:
Cat Skorupski,
Senior Writer After college,
Cat
Skorupski had big dreams of making it as a singer/songwriter or a
musical theater actress. And, though life took her on a different path,
she still taps
into her creativity and lyrical prowess on a daily basis as a Senior
Writer for
Hallmark. Cat’s wide range of talents allow her to not only write cards
and
books, but to also do voice overs for a variety of interactive Hallmark
products. In her spare time, Cat recharges her creative spirit by
running,
making music and spending time with her husband and two young kids. But,
she
finds great inspiration through her interaction with people from all
walks of
life.
Andy Newcom,
Photo Stylist With a graphic designer
and a copywriter as parents, Andy Newcom grew up in an environment that was a
perfect training ground for his career as a Hallmark photo stylist. After
getting his start as an art teacher, Andy brought his unique eye for visual
expression to Hallmark where he’s been for the past 28 years. He draws
inspiration from some of his favorite things, including nature, spirituality,
personal stories, books and baked goods.
Jean Dodge,
Writing Manager Jean Dodge studied
nursing in college, but ultimately found that it didn’t bring the satisfaction
she wanted. Shifting her focus toward something that would blend her desire to
help others with her love of words, she came to Hallmark – first starting in
HR, but soon being accepted into the Editorial department. Over the course of
32 years, Jean worked her way through the ranks, now serving as one of
Hallmark’s writing managers. In that role, Jean leads a team of brilliant,
humorous and insightful writers who develop products that help consumers
connect for any occasion. Jean is inspired by the people at Hallmark – still in
awe of what they create – and feels honored to be a part of consumer’s lives.
When
we arrived we were greeted by such lovely people who worked for
Hallmark, and we had a wonderful breakfast spread with all kind of
goodies that were delicious.
Well as well ate, the great folks at Hallmark had a surprise to
show us (prior to the get together they folks at Hallmark asked ups for a
video or a photo that shows how you captures your relationship with your child and how you support and encourage them. I sent in a picture of my daughter riding Dumbo and conquering her fear of heights)
they had made a special video in true Hallmark style showcasing each of
our pictures and special sentiments. It was so special, I was on the
verge of tears, good thing they thought ahead and had tissues on the table, we were going to need them.
What an interesting job this would be, I would love the
chance to be a Hallmark card writer. My fellow bloggers and I got to come up with our own cards, What would you write if you could write a card, it was harder than it seemed. My mind went blank, and Jean was our helper and she came out with some amazing card saying right off of the top of her head. It was amazing! I wish I could think like that....
I had a great day with Hallmark and my fellow bloggers, I want to thank Hallmark for the lovely day. I will remember all of the great writing advice, and I will never take a picture the same again. I now know so many great tips, I know my pictures will be more fabulous now.
And remember, life is full of memories. Sure you send cards on holidays or birthdays. How about sending an any day card to just show you love that special someone and to encourage then in any way. I am sure they will love it, and you will make their day.
Hallmark provided me with a great goodie bag that I will share with my family and friends.
And I have a great code to share with all of you, when shopping at Hallmark online, you can order a personalized greeting card and save 30% please enter the code Blog30 at checkout.
