Diana’s Bananas started in the mid-80s, as the delicious result of an inspired whim. There in our booth at The Taste of Chicago, the city’s yearly open-air food fest, we hit upon the idea of freezing a fresh, ripe banana and giving it a bath in delicious chocolatier-grade melted bar chocolate. We each took a bite and passed it around. Our taste buds leapt for joy... and we sprang into action.

I like when I can bring the reminders of Disney World home with me and one of the things we always get when we make it to the Animal Kingdom is the frozen chocolate covered banana. I had a little taste of the Animal Kingdom via Diana’s Bananas  who sent us 2 boxes of milk chocolate and 2 boxes of dark chocolate covered bananas and with the warm weather we had this past week they were a nice refreshing treat to have.

I hate giving my daughter junky snacks, full of sugar and just not good for her. Diana’s Bananas are a great healthier option, the bananas are good the chocolate is delicious and it will help you when you want something sweet after dinner but don’t want to be bad. You can be “bad” without really being bad at all. I surprised my daughter with a frozen banana the other night she was intrigued because it’s not something we have so something new was very cool and she gobbled up that banana in no time. I had to make sure she didn’t inhale the stick with the banana!

Bananas can be tricky when ripe they’re delicious if you eat it too soon it’s not sweet and if you wait too long it’s mushy and not so good. Diana’s Bananas are from Ecuador and a refractometer lets them know when the banana is at its peak of sweetness (I need one of those because I’m tired of getting bad bananas!) As soon as they’re picked they’re frozen to -20 degrees and remain that cold until you unwrap it. I like the frozen bananas at the Animal Kingdom, they’re good but Diana’s Bananas are at a totally different level. Creamy, sweet and just flat out awesome and best of all you won’t feel guilty eating them!
