Do you have a sweet tooth? Well my family sure does, and I have found a great sweet shop that is just awesome! It is C.G Higgins, here is a little more info about C.G Higgins from the website:
It all started around 1982 when I did my first official event. It was the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota and I was known as "The King's Nuts". Offering only my signature Peanut Rolls the first year, the business was an instant success. The biggest problem was keeping up with production!!
From there, I moved into doing State Fairs throughout the country. Everything from the Dade County Youth Fair in Miami, to the Calgary Stampeed and Edmonton Klondike Days in Alberta, Canada. Those in between were the Iowa State Fair, Minnesota State Fair, Arkansas State Fair, New Mexico State Fair, Florida State Fair and others. One of the most memorable events was the Sturgis Motorcycle ralley in Sturgis, South Dakota.
We hand-make fine chocolate truffles, caramel corn, and many types of nut brittle, most recently featured on the Food Network's "Road Tasted" with the Neelys. Also known for our specialty fudge, C.G Higgins incorporates local flavors of the New Mexico including red and green chiles.
My Review:
It takes a lot to impress my husband anymore; we’ve eaten so many kinds of goodies that it really takes something extraordinary for him to take notice. He took notice of C.G. Higgins and with good reason these were some seriously wicked goodies. And it was a collection of goodies that kind of scratched us all where we itch.
The peanut butter fudge was “Hershey good” according to my husband, we bought fudge on our last trip to Hershey Park and it was so different from what we’re used to getting at the Jersey shore. The C.G. Higgins fudge like the Hershey fudge was creamy, I mean really creamy and the peanut butter flavor was front and center and the best thing this didn’t taste like fake peanut butter you could taste the peanuts. This was incredible fudge.
Butter pecan brittle is next on the hit parade and well that can lasted one night and this blogger didn’t get to even sniff the jar. Hurricane Bobby set his sights on the brittle and tore into it like a kid on Christmas morning tears into their gifts! What I was able to get out of him was the taste of the brittle was rich and buttery and stupid good when he finished he looked sadly into the jar when it was empty.
Now my favorite caramel popcorn…..oh my!
This isn’t your run of the mill caramel corn and the red chili flavor was soooooo good. What I really loved the most about the chili flavor is the chili really enhanced the caramel and didn’t overbear it with just heat. I love spicy flavorful food I hate just tasting hot, I like spicy FLAVORS and this had such a wonderful spicy flavor. The New Mexico Red Chile Carmel is a 2011 Scovie winner, this is a big deal in the food world, and I can see why this won.
And finally our box of truffles, when I opened the box the truffles shifted during shipping and I thought I had put them back in all of their proper spots under their names. Thankfully C.G. Higgins lets you know what you’re eating so it isn’t a “surprise” when you bite into it. Well thanks to shipping and me not putting them back correctly our box of truffles were truly Gumpian because we never knew what we were gonna get! But this is top notch chocolate so they’re all good but when you think you’re having the mint truffle and it’s Meyer lemon well SURPRISE!
The truffles themselves are really exquisite, and the truffle filling is perfect, we’ve eaten mushy truffles and stale truffles, the C.G. Higgins truffles have the absolute best consistency, these are world class truffles.
But I need to leave you with two words….Himilayan salt. It was a religious experience eating that truffle. Stop reading this and go buy one….go! Do it! Trust me! I’m building a shrine to that truffle as I type this. Simply amazing….
C.G Higgins items are so popular at the fair that they go through 12,000 apples and TWO tons of hand crafted caramel at the fair. Wow, they sure are loved.
So if you are looking for some of the best fudge, and caramel corn you have ever had, make sure to pick some up from C.G Higgins, you will not be disappointed.
