Our family loves to play games together, and we just love different and fun games. I want to introduce you to a great game company Gamewright, if you are looking for a different and unique board game Gamewright games are for you and your family.
About Gamewright (from the website)
Gamewright was founded in 1994 by four parents whose kids wanted great games. From the start, our mission has remained clear: Create the highest quality family games with outstanding play-value. Guided by themes and experiences that transcend age and salted with a bit of irreverence, our games are designed to foster laughter, learning, friendship and fun.
Over the years our family has grown to over 70 games, 200 awards, and countless happy players. The thousands of letters we receive from kids, parents, grandparents, and teachers tell us our hearts are in the right place.

We were fortunate enough to be able to review two of Gamewright’s newest games. Gubs and Knock your Blocks off. My daughter was so excited, that she would have the chance to review these games, I have to admit I was excited as well, well the games did look like fun to play. When the games arrived, may daughter asked if we could play the Gubs card game first. The ages for this game are 10+ and my daughter is 6.. But my daughter is pretty advanced when it comes to games, so I figured she would have fun with this game.
The GUBS game:
Welcome, you who have chanced to look beneath the dewy clover to uncover the secret struggles of the Gubs. Behold this clever card game that casts you in an epic contest to build the mightiest Gub colony. Seek wisdom from The Esteemed Elder or protection from a Toad Rider as you fend off a myriad of traps, lures, and other surprising events. Victory lies down an ever-changing path and no one is safe until the final card falls!
- Ages 10 and up
- 2 to 6 players
- Playing time: About 20 minutes
And boy was I right. This card game was a blast to play together. This is a game of fantasy and imagination. My daughter is learning to read, and each card had a description and I had to help her with the words at time, but I am surprised at how well she did with this game. The game did not last long, about 20 minutes and of course when the game ended my daughter wanted us to play again. Sure why not I thought it was fun too.
The second game we tried was the Knock Your Blocks Off game, this is a board game, you battle to knock off your opponents crown, now this one looks fun!
Stack ‘em up … Knock ‘em down! First, race to build a structure by matching up the patterns on your blocks. Then use the battle die to knock off your opponent's crown! Depending on your roll, you may get to attack with an avalanche of boulders, a wall-smashing ogre, or even a fire-breathing dragon! Rack up the most victory points and crown yourself king of the block.
Knock Your Blocks Off brilliantly combines two seemingly disparate elements into one powerhouse game. In a sense, you’re getting two games in one: a fast-paced visual puzzle and a fine-motor dexterity challenge. At first one might not expect “brains and brawn” to work well together, but as our play testers told us – they give the game depth as well as the opportunity for players with different strengths to shine. Strategy tip: Think carefully about which structures will benefit you the most as the game progresses.
- Ages 8 and up
- 2 to 4 players
- Playing time: About 15 minutes
This just a fun game, you have to build your structure and use your battle die to try to knock off your opponents crown. Of course when my daughter started playing the game she insisted that the crowns were a queens crown not a king (there always has to be a girl in a game she is playing to make her happy, she is a funny kid)this game requires strategy, speed and it is just plain fun. Who doesn’t want to be able to knock down your opponents tower?
You have to build one of five structures that each have a bonus associated with them and some a better at resisting damage. Trophy tokens are awarded to players who successfully destroy or defend their structure. This game also requires dexterity, my daughter had a little trouble at first, but by the 3rd game she was a pro (yes we had to play this game multiple times in a row too ). This is a great game to learn hand eye coordination. I liked that the blocks were wooden, and not a cheap plastic, and because they were wooden, this made them easier to stack and play the game right.
With the holidays right around the corner, remember games always make great gifts. The Gamewright site is full of great game options for ages 3 and up to ages 10 and up.
There are great games for girls and boys, and wonderful family games too.
