Mossy Bayou Foods Review (And a Giveaway)

Mossy Bayou Foods is a Louisiana specialty foods company with several products that appeal to those seeking zesty and exciting flavor experiences. 


Leading the product line-up is the award-winning LOUISIANA SWAMP SCUM HOT SAUCE. This unique sauce earned a First Place Award in the 2002 FieryFood challenge, sponsored by Chile Pepper Magazine. The hot sauce, developed from an old Cajun recipe, has a delicious smoke flavor and stands alone with its dark “swamp-green” color.

I was lucky enough to review a yummy, Cajun goodies box from Mossy Bayou foods.

My review: 

I’ve said it here before we love Louisiana and its food. So when we had the chance to review products from Mossy Bayou (http://mossybayou.com) I jumped all over it! We received the Cajun Goodies Gift Box which contained: Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce, Bayou Blend Seasoning, Louisiana Popcorn Rice & Cajun Chow-Chow.

The Swamp Scum Hot Sauce really looks like well swamp scum! But it tastes so much better than scum, not that I know what scum tastes like…. I had a bowl of lifeless soup and it needed something so I reached for the bottle of Swamp Scum and put a few dashes in to the soup and that soup went from lifeless and bland to popping with a nice spicy not too spicy flavor. This sauce will work on everything, it’s not too hot and it has a very good taste, it’s not just about the heat it has flavor.

I grilled some chicken and used the Bayou Blend seasoning on the chicken and it was very tasty, nice kick in spice and very flavorful. We paired the chicken with the Pop Corn Rice, it’s named after pop corn but we thought it had a tortilla smell to it. Either way it was good rice, and it went well with the chicken and my husband took the little of rice that was left and mixed it with milk and cinnamon sugar and whipped himself up a quick bowl of rice pudding.  We dyed eggs for Easter and I was in the process of turning those eggs into egg salad and I though what better way to use the chow chow! We also made deviled eggs (the recipe is below) It’s relish like and should work well with the egg salad. I was right, the chow chow is bursting with flavor but be warned it is a little salty, so if you’re going to use it don’t worry about adding salt to whatever it is you’re pairing it with you won’t need it! 

 

This was a really cool box of Bayou goodies and for the price of $16.50 it’s very reasonable, if you’re looking for a rather inexpensive taste of Louisiana look no further than Mossy Bayou, they will be able to satisfy your Cajun cravin’!
