He could have spent his 64th birthday with anyone but he chose us!

We had the pleasure of seeing Reginald Dwight or Elton John for those who don't know his real name Friday night at the Core States, First Union, Wachovia, Wells Fargo Center. Seriously, the place has been around for about 16 years and has had 4 names in that time, just like the Olympics every four years the insert name here center gets a new name. Anywho.....back to Sir Elton. We had second row center seats, we were lined up perfectly with his piano, he was only 15 feet or so away from us, it was really cool sitting that close to someone who's that famous! The first thing is I was blown away by how good he is live, phenomenal singer and piano player, simply amazing. His show lasted for a little over 3 hours and he did a mix of his hits with songs from his current album with Leon Russell, the hits part was great, the Leon Russell part was well no offense to Mr. Russell or his fans, painfully boring. He left out some of his hits to instead sing newer songs and that meant he didn't sing "I'm Still Standing" which is my husband's favorite song of his and he didn't  sing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" or "The Circle of Life!" And as Disney fans we weren't happy with those omissions.
That being said we still enjoyed the show, he's a fantastic performer and to our shock towards the end of the concert he called people up to the front of the stage and started signing autographs with his own Sharpie! We didn't expect that to happen and I got to the stage a tad late and just missed out on getting my ticket signed. Ah well... On top of it all it was Elton's 64th birthday, the crowd started singing happy birthday, so he began playing on the piano without the band being in on it "When I'm 64" by the Beatles and in a second the band joined him and you could see them laughing at that and having a good time with it, it was a funny moment. And if all things go well were hoping that in a week or so we'll regain our hearing again. Our ears were buzzing something wicked, next time we're that close to the stage for any concert we will be bringing earplugs! WHATCHA SAY?! Has now become part of our everyday vernacular.
